Newly Published North Portland Statistics Missing Important Data Thanks To Mayor Adams
Although I found the North Portland statistical data Barry Manning recently published, http://www.portlandonline.com/?c=51576&a=274405 , of interest I noticed one glaring omission, namely, Public Housing Statistical Data. I know that even if he wanted to include this essential information in his report he could not because mayor Adams has refused access to taxpayers, candidates for public office, the press and certainly city employees.
The Portland Tribune wrote of mayor Adams visit to St. Johns in January 2009, "Consultant and longtime North Portland activist Richard Ellmyer also complained that the city was overloading the area with low-income housing projects, saying their residents do not have enough disposable income to support local businesses. Although Adams did not agree or disagree with Ellmyer, he admitted that the city frequently does not have enough information to know whether any part of town is bearing more than its share of such projects."
What Sam Adams did NOT say was that he, Sam Adams, was responsible for denying access to that information.
Since Adams made that statement at Weir’s Cyclery on January 6, 2009 he has continued to make sure that, "the city does not have enough information to know whether any part of town is bearing more than its share of such projects."
When asked to provide this Public Housing Statistical Data referenced in his January remarks this September to Richard Ellmyer, a candidate for appointment to the North Portland senate seat, and every voter in North Portland, Sam Adams refused.
As a candidate for the North Portland House seat in next May's Democratic primary I will be talking about this lack of Public Housing Statistical Data and how it invalidates the outcome of citizen participation in the Portland Plan discussions just as the legislature invalidated its health care legislation by denying citizens the right to discuss a Single Payer health care solution during its "deliberations."
I expect to attend the Portland Plan community meeting at the St. Johns Community Center on December 1st. I understand that mayor Adams will be speaking. I will make an effort to publicly expose and challenge the mayor on his support for the discredited and abhorrent policy of UNLIMITED neighborhood concentration of public housing, especially in North Portland, which is only possible by his coverup of legitimate, legal and necessary Public Housing Statistical Data.
